The Montana Coaches Association (MCA) is pleased to announce that 2 Montana coaches will be inducted into the MCA Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be a part of the 2024 MCA Awards Ceremony (with the MCA Coaches Clinic), on Thursday, August 1st, at 11:30 am in Great Falls at the CM Russell High School Auxiliary Gym. Family and friends are invited to attend the ceremony and a complimentary luncheon in the CMR cafeteria immediately following the ceremony. Congratulations to these 2 long-serving, outstanding coaches and their families!
2024 MCA Hall of Fame Inductees
Meg Haran Murphy
Meg Murphy has been an integral part of the Butte Sports Community for almost a half-century, first as an outstanding athlete at Butte Central and Montana Tech, and then later as a successful Butte Central coach. Murphy coached for 41 years, 35 at Central and 6 at MT Tech. Her outstanding coaching career covered basketball, softball, track & field and included 5 State Championships. In softball, Meg’s Maroons brought home the championship trophy 3 times (1997, 1999, 2000) along with 2nd and 3rd place state trophies. Her 1999 and 2000 teams were both 24-0 combining for 52 straight wins. In basketball, she guided her teams to 2 State Titles (2011, 2016), 2 runners-up and one 3rd place trophy. Meg’s 2016 Lady Maroons were undefeated with a season 24-0.
Coach Murphy is a 2-time MCA Coach of the Year and was a 2016 National Coach of the Year Nominee. She has been nominated as MCA COY 5 times and was a 2005 Butte Sports HOF Inductee. Meg has directed numerous camps and tournaments and continues to head up the “Connecting for the Cancer Cure” Golf Tournament that has raised over $140,000 to assist cancer patients in SW Montana.
Randy Symon
Randy Symon started his career at Hays Lodgepole, coaching track & field, basketball, cross country, and football for 4 years. From there he moved to Thompson Falls where, for 34 years, he was a fixture at T&F meets. Coach Symon’s teams have won an incredible 31 District and 9 Divisional Championships and two State Titles.
The Lady Blue Hawk T&F teams garnered 12 District Titles, 3 Divisional Championships and one State Title under Symon’s leadership, while the boys were District Champs 19 times and Divisional Champs 6 times. They also brought home one 3rd place, 4 runners-up, and one State Title Trophy.
Coach Symon was the MCA Boys T&F Coach of the Year in 2002. He also spent time officiating basketball and was an MOA Volleyball official.
